Teacher Convicted Of Sexually Abusing Students Released On Bond In Maryland: Police

A former elementary school teacher in Maryland who was convicted for sexually abusing students has been released from prison, the Montgomery County Department of Police announced.

John Anthony Vigna, now 58, had his conviction overturned overturned over the summer and he is now released on bond while he awaits a new trial, despite additional victims coming forward. 

According to police, while acting as a teacher at Cloverly Elementary School in Silver Spring, Vigna is accused of inappropriately touching girls between August 2001 and February 2016.

He began teaching at the school in October 1991.

Authorities say that since his initial conviction, new victims have reported other incidents, and the department's Special Investigations Division believe there could be more.
